We have a high-quality, engaging Nursery where children thrive as they begin their educational journey. Full-time and part-time spaces are available.
30 Hour Funding
All 3 and 4 year old children are entitled to 15 hours free childcare per week. We also offer 30 hours free childcare for children who are entitled to this. You can apply for 30 hours funding at the following website:- https://childcare-support.tax.service.gov.uk/par/app/applynow
Nursery Application Process
Children can be admitted into our nursery the September following their third birthday.
To apply for a Nursery place at Dorothy Barley Infant School, parents will be asked to complete a Nursery application form (these can be obtained from the school office) providing the following details:
- Child’s name
- Child’s date of birth
- Address, telephone number and email address
- Name of parent/carer
- Names and dates of birth of any siblings attending Dorothy Barley Infant School
Parents can complete the form to apply at any time, however the closing date for applications is the 31st March in the year in which the child is eligible to start (see above). Applications received after this date will be classed as late and will be dealt with after the initial application process.
You will be notified in the Summer term if we are able to offer your child a place in our Nursery. At that point you will be invited in with your child to visit our Nursery.
Nursery Admissions Criteria
If there are more applications than there are places available, we will use the following criteria, in priority order, for deciding which applications to accept.
- Priority 1 – Children who are or were in the care of a local authority. Please see note 1.
- Priority 2 – Children who have a sibling (brother or sister) at the school when they are due to start school. Please see note 2.
- Priority 3 – Children who live closest to the school, measured in kilometres in a straight line (as the crow flies).
Important notes
1. A looked-after child is a child who is or was:
- in the care of a local authority; or
- being provided with accommodation by a local authority under their social services duties (see the definition in Section 22(1) of the Children Act 1989).
For admission purposes we consider a ‘looked-after child’ to be a child currently in care or a child who was in care but became the subject of an adoption, residence, or special guardianship order immediately after leaving care.
2. ‘Sibling’ means:
- a full brother or sister;
- a half-brother or half-sister;
- a stepbrother or stepsister; and
- an adopted or long-term fostered brother or sister; living at the same address.
Please make sure you name the relevant sibling on your application form. If they are not listed on your form, we cannot take them into account.
3. The child’s home must be the permanent address where they live with their legal guardian. This should be the address for your Council Tax and where any Child Benefit is addressed.
