Information on how we assess pupils in each year group.
In School Assessments
Children are assessed through interactions with nursery staff and observations of play.
Within six weeks of starting school, children participate in the Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA). This is a short, interactive and practical assessment of each child’s early literacy, communication, language and mathematical skills.
At the end of the year, the school reports whether each child has achieved a ‘Good Level of Development’ (GLD). Parents informed of the outcome.
Children are assessed through interactions with staff and observations against the 17 aspects of learning.
Termly assessments of phonics and writing.
Phonics screen – each child works individually with a member of staff to read real and ‘alien’ words. Parents informed of the outcome.
Children are assessed through guided tasks completed with a member of staff.
Termly assessment of writing, maths and phonics.
Phonics screen re-sits – for children who were not working at the expected level in Year 1. Parents informed of the outcome.
Termly assessments of reading, writing, maths and phonics.
