Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to the start of a new academic year! We have had a lovely week welcoming the children back to school. They have settled remarkably well into their new classes and made a very positive start to the new year.
Our new Reception children thoroughly enjoyed their first morning with us and we look forward to our Nursery children joining us next week. If you are joining our school for the first time, we look forward to welcoming you into our school community.
Meet the Teacher
Next week we are hosting our ‘Meet the Teacher’ meetings for Year 1 and Year 2. This is a great opportunity to meet the staff in each year group and find out more about what your child will be learning this year. We hope to see as many of you there as possible!
Year 1 – Wednesday 11th September at 8:55am
Year 2 – Wednesday 11th September at 2:45pm
Please enter the school via the gate on Davington Road.
Reading
Reading is of the utmost importance at Dorothy Barley Infant School. From next week, Year 1 and Year 2 children will bring home a reading book. Please read this book at least three times with your child at home. Time spent reading daily really helps your child to become a fluent, confident reader as soon as possible. We would also like to invite you to our Little Wandle meetings, where you can find out more about how we teach phonics and early reading in school.
Reception – Monday 16th September at 2:40pm
Year 1 – Tuesday 17th September at 8:55am
Year 2 – Wednesday 18th September at 2:40pm
Please enter the school via the gate on Davington Road.
Curriculum
Our bespoke curriculum has a different theme every half term. The themes for this half term are listed below. Look out for our parent overviews next week, which will explain more about the content of the curriculum and how you can support your child with this learning at home.
Autumn 1 Curriculum Themes | |
---|---|
Nursery | Our Journey Begins |
Reception | Once Upon a Time |
Year 1 | What’s in the Toybox? |
Year 2 | What a Wonderful World |
School Office
You may have noticed a new face in our school office this week. Mrs Beverly Fairweather will be supporting in the office on a short-term basis. Mrs Fairweather is the Office Manager at our partner school, Parsloes Primary School, and is looking forward to meeting children and parents.
Uniform
The children are looking very smart this week in their new school uniform. Please continue to ensure that they come to school in the correct uniform with a Dorothy Barley book bag. PE lessons will start next week so all children will need their PE kit in school.
Thank you for your continued support.
Mrs Sam O’Hara
Head of School
