Dear Parents/Carers,
As we come to the end of another busy week, here’s a reminder that there will be lots of exciting activities and learning happening over the coming weeks, so please keep an eye on our diary dates!
Health & Safety Information
Parents and carers are responsible for supervising their children (both infant and older) whilst on the school premises, before and after school in the playgrounds. Please ensure your children stay close by you at the start and end of the day as the playground is a very busy place at these times.
Your child can bring a water bottle to have in school each day. This is especially important as warmer weather is now upon us! You may also wish to put sunscreen on your child, before they come to school, as the weather hopefully continues to get warmer and sunnier.

Sports Day
We will be holding our annual Sports Day on Thursday 20th June. The day will run according to the following schedule:
9.15am – Reception and Morning Nursery
12.45pm – Afternoon Nursery
1.30pm – Years 1 and 2
Parents and carers are very welcome to attend. Please arrive via the main entrance on Davington Road and your child’s designated start time. The children will be representing their house during this event. All children should come to school wearing plain black shorts or jogging bottoms and a top in their house colour. If you unsure of which colour your child needs please speak to your child’s teacher or the school office.
Windrush Day
Next week in school the children will be learning about Windrush Day and why it is celebrated. This takes place every year on 22nd June.
Windrush Day is a day that marks the arrival of African-Caribbean immigrants to the shores of Britain and honors the British Caribbean Community. They made their way to England after the Second World War and arrived at Tilbury docks in Essex.
If your family or friends were part of the Windrush generation, it would be lovely if they could share their experiences which in turn the children can share with their class.
Uniform
Please ensure that your child always comes to school in the correct, full school uniform and footwear. They should also bring their book bag to school each day.
Please ensure your child has their correct PE kit in school.
As the weather is becoming warmer, please look at our uniform policy for information regarding the school’s summer uniform.
You can find the school uniform policy on the website or please ask in the school office for a hard copy.
If you have any school uniform in good condition that your child has grown out of. we would be grateful for donations.
Please remember to write your child’s name in ALL of their uniform.
Parent Governor Vacancy
The Governing Body of Dorothy Barley Infant School has one vacancy for a Parent Governor. Governors are people who want to make positive contributions to the school and the education of its pupils. Parent Governors are elected by their fellow parents. They are important because they keep other governors in touch with issues that concern the pupils’ parents.
Being a Parent Governor can be enjoyable and rewarding. If you have the enthusiasm to come more closely involved with the running of your child’s school please come and collect and application form from the school office.
Thank you for your continued support.
