Dear Parents and Carers,
This week we have been busy welcoming our new Nursery children to school and are very proud of how well they are settling at the beginning of their journey at Dorothy Barley Infant School. All children have now completed their first full week in their new classes and have continued to display our school values of character, compassion and challenge.
Meet the Teacher
Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for our Year 1 and Year 2 Meet the Teacher meetings this week. The presentation has been sent home via Parent Mail. If you have any questions about your child’s new class, please do not hesitate to speak to their class teacher.
Reading
Reading is of the utmost importance at Dorothy Barley Infant School. We would like to invite you to our Little Wandle meetings, where you can find out more about how we teach phonics and early reading in school. The meetings will be led by Mrs Thomas, our Early Reading and Phonics leader.
Reception – Monday 16th September at 2:40pm
Year 1 – Tuesday 17th September at 8:55am
Year 2 – Wednesday 18th September at 2:40pm
Please enter the school via the gate on Davington Road. We hope to see as many of you there as possible!
Staffing
This week we welcomed Miss King to Dorothy Barley Infant School. As a specialist sports coach, she will be teaching one PE lesson a week to each class in Year 1 and Year 2. Miss King will be with us every Thursday and the children really enjoyed their first session this week!
Lunchtime Clubs
This week we have started our new lunchtime clubs for Years 1 and 2. Children can now choose to attend Games Club, Arts and Crafts Club, Computer Club and Library Club throughout the week. We are also holding auditions for our brand new school choir and very much looking forward to performing together.
Musician of the Week
Every week, we learn about a different musician in school, from different time periods, cultures and styles of music. This week the children have enjoyed listening to the music of Aretha Franklin.
Thank you for your continued support.
Mrs Sam O’Hara
