Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had another busy week in school!  Don’t forget to check the blog posts below for updates from each year group.

House Captains

Year 2 have had a very exciting week applying for and then voting for our new House Captains.  It was difficult for the children to decide who to vote for as we had so many strong applicants!  We were all very impressed with the effort all children put into their application forms and the many reasons they identified as to why they would be super House Captains.

After voting this morning, we were delighted to introduce our new House Captains in assembly this afternoon and present them with their badges!  Congratulations to the following children:

Attenborough House – Ava and George

Donaldson House – Kamarli and Amelia

Rashford House – Hibba and Luzibo

Benjamin House – Jackson and Mirha

There will be further opportunities for children in all year groups to take on leadership positions throughout the year.

Junior Duke

Thank you to all parents and carers who were able to join our Time to Talk session about the Junior Duke Award on Wednesday.  We are really excited to launch this award, which will develop the life skills, confidence, independence and resilience of all of our children.  Soon they will be helping around the house with cooking, cleaning and other tasks!

Our first House Challenge of the year next Friday is our Junior Duke fundraiser.  The children will be participating in a ‘Mini Olympics’, where they will be sponsored to complete a series of sporting challenges, all to raise money for the award.  Thank you for the very generous donations we have already begun to receive.  If you need another copy of the sponsorship form or the letter to consent for your child to take part in Junior Duke, please speak to Donna in the school office.

Children can come to school on Friday 18th October wearing a T-shirt in their house colour.

Parent Governors

The governing body of Dorothy Barley Infant School has two vacancies for Parent Governors.  The governing body works in partnership with school leaders to promote continuous improvement in the school’s performance.

Governors have a very important role to play by making a positive contribution to the school and the education of all of the children who attend.  Parent Governors are elected by their fellow parents.  Being a governor is a rewarding and valuable role.

This week, you will have received a letter with further information and an application form.  If you have any questions about this role, please do ask!

Health and Safety

When bringing your child to school in the morning, please remember to drive carefully in the roads surrounding the school and park considerately away from the school gates.  The main entrance on Davington Road gets very busy during school drop off time and we need to ensure that all children can safely enter and exit the school.

We are a nut free school to protect the children in our school with nut allergies.  If your child has a packed lunch, no nuts or food products containing nuts are allowed.

Musician of the Week

Every week, we learn about a different musician in school, from different time periods, cultures and styles of music.  This week the children have enjoyed listening to the New Orleans Jazz music of Tuba Skinny.
