Dear Parents and Carers,
We have come to the end of another busy week in school. Don’t forget to check the blog posts below to see what your child has been learning in class.
Rocksteady Music School

We are very excited to welcome Rocksteady into school next Wednesday. Rocksteady offer music tuition for children from Reception to Year 2 by giving them the opportunity to form and perform in their very own band! Children can learn to play drums, keyboard, guitar or bass as well as choose to sing lead vocals.
After Rocksteady have visited on Wednesday, you will receive a letter with information about how you can sign your child up. Tuition will take place in school hours every Wednesday from February 5th. Places are limited so please do sign up as soon as possible!
Careers Week
From Monday 10th February to Friday 14th February, we will be celebrating Careers Week in school. At Dorothy Barley, we want all of our children to have aspirations for the future and reach for the stars! Therefore, we will be inviting a range of visitors into school to speak to the children about their jobs.
We have already had some parents and carers volunteer to come in and talk to the children about their job, which is very much appreciated. If you would also be able to visit, please do let your child’s teacher or the office know.
Year 1 Parent Meeting – Phonic Screening Check
In June, all children in Year 1 are required to take the Phonic Screening Check. This is a short assessment of their reading and phonics ability and is completed by all Year 1 children nationally.
We would like to invite all parents and carers of Year 1 children to a meeting on Wednesday 29th January at 2:40pm to find out more about this and how you can help your child at home. We hope to see as many of you there as possible!
Reminders
The photographer will be coming into school on 4th February to take individual photos of all the children. Children should come to school looking smart!
We still have a few spaces available in our Multisports club for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, which is run by our PE coach Miss King every Thursday after school. Please contact the office if you would like a space for your child.
Year 2 are visiting the National Portrait Gallery after the half term holiday. Please ensure you have completed the consent form for your child and made a payment using Parent Pay.
Have a lovely weekend!
