Dear Parents and Carers,
We have come to the end of another busy week in school. Don’t forget to check the blog posts below to see what your child has been learning in class.
Champion School

On Tuesday, we were delighted to host our first Little Wandle Live Event as a Champion School. We welcomed colleagues from other schools, who spent time learning about how we teach early reading and phonics and visiting fantastic lessons and reading sessions across the school. We are all very proud to champion early reading and of the progress our children make in this area.
Rocksteady

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 had a very exciting day on Wednesday as we were visited by Rocksteady Music School! After an interesting assembly where the children learned all about the different instruments that make up a rock band and sung along with a range of songs, the children participated in workshops and had the chance to try out the instruments for themselves.
Rocksteady will be in school every Wednesday offering music tuition. Children who sign up with be part of a band with their friends, learn to play an instruments and prepare for performances throughout the school year. Lots of children have signed up already but there are still a few places left.
Year 2 – Junior Duke

Year 2 will be completing one of their Junior Duke challenges on Monday 3rd February at 2.30pm, learning to play a competitive game. We would like to invite all parents and carers of children in Year 2 into school for a board game battle! Please enter the school via the main playground.
Careers Week
From Monday 10th February to Friday 14th February, we will be celebrating Careers Week in school. At Dorothy Barley, we want all of our children to have aspirations for the future and reach for the stars! Therefore, we will be inviting a range of visitors into school to speak to the children about their jobs.
We have already had some parents and carers volunteer to come in and talk to the children about their job, which is very much appreciated. If you would also be able to visit, please do let your child’s teacher or the office know.
Reminders
The photographer will be coming into school on 5th February to take individual photos of all the children. Children should come to school looking smart in their full school uniform. Sibling photos (including junior children) will be taken before school between 8.00am and 8.45am. Parents and carers should arrive at the main playground during this time where a member of staff will direct you to the main hall.
When bringing your child to school, please drive and park considerately in the roads around the school. We have
Have a lovely weekend!
