Dear Parents and Carers,
We have enjoyed welcoming all of the children back to school after the half term break this week.
EYFS – ZooLab Workshop
Nursery and Reception had a very exciting visit from ZooLab on Wednesday this week! As part of their ‘Wriggle and Crawl’ workshop, the children got to learn about and hold a range of wriggly animals, including reptiles and snakes! All of the children were very brave and keen to find out more about the animals. This workshop links to their new curriculum themes and launches their learning for this term.
Year 2 Educational Visit – National Portrait Gallery
Kingfisher and Woodpecker classes also enjoyed an exciting start to the term as they visited the National Portrait Gallery in London. In History, the children will be learning about the monarchs Elizabeth I and Elizabeth II and in Art they will be drawing their own self-portraits. All of the children represented the school fantastically and showed our school values.

World Book Day
We will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 6th March. Reading is at the heart of everything we do at Dorothy Barley Infant School and we want all of our children to develop a love of reading.
The theme this year will be ‘Get Cosy With a Book’ and children can come to school wearing their pyjamas. We would also like to invite you into school to share a book with your child at the following times: Reception 8:50am, Nursery 11:00am, and KS1 2:40pm.

Curriculum Themes
This week, we have begun our new wider curriculum themes for this half term. The theme links all of the different subjects together and also links with the work the children will be completing in their English lessons.

Reminders
When bringing your child to school, please drive and park considerately in the roads around the school. If your child is in Nursery, please queue up on the junior school side of our Nursery gate.
If you need to take your child to an appointment that cannot be scheduled outside of school hours, you will need to provide evidence of this appointment. Please let the office know in advance.
