Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to a new year at Dorothy Barley Infant School!
This week we have been busy welcoming our Year 1 and Year 2 children into their new classes. The children have settled in fantastically well and have been following all of our golden rules for behaviour both in class and around the school, making their new teachers very proud. We have high expectations for behaviour and attitudes towards learning to make sure that our school is a happy learning environment for everyone.
Our Early Years staff have been out and about on home visits this week. They have enjoyed meeting the children at home and finding out more about them. We are very much looking forward to our Reception children starting with us on Monday and the Nursery children throughout the week. We understand that your child starting school is a big milestone in their life (and yours!) and will always do our best to ensure they are happy and settled. If you have any worries about your child starting school, please do speak to a member of the early years team.
This week we have also welcomed Mrs Kumar to the team as our new Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion and SENDCo.
Meet the Teacher – KS1
Next week, we will host our Meet the Teacher meetings for Year 1 and Year 2. This is an opportunity for families to meet the staff working with their children and find out more about the year ahead, including how you can support your child at home.
Please enter the school via the gate on Davington Road.
Year 1 – Friday 12th September 2:30pm
Year 2 – Friday 12th September 8:55am
Uniform
It’s lovely to see the children looking so smart as they return to school! Full school uniform should be worn by the children at all times, including a jumper or cardigan with the school logo. If they have not yet done so, your child should bring their PE kit into school next week.
School shoes should be plain black (no trainers).
It is important that all the children use the Dorothy Barley book bag. We have very limited storage space in school, so rucksacks and other bags are not permitted.
We have a range good quality second hand uniform available from the office.
Attendance
As you are aware, attendance is high priority at Dorothy Barley Infant School, as we know that children learn best when they are in school every day on time. We appreciate your support in getting your child to school on time, every day.
If your child is too unwell to attend school, or you are unsure if they are well enough to attend, please phone the school office first thing in the morning. Medical appointments should be booked outside of school hours.
School Dinners
You will have received an email with your login details for School Grid, the new system we are using for school dinners. As part of this system, you need to log in and book your child’s dinner from home.
If you are having any difficulty logging in to the School Grid website, please contact the office so that we can check your details.
Have a lovely weeekend!
Mrs S O’Hara
