Dear Parents and Carers,
It’s been another busy week in school! Don’t forget to check the blogs at the bottom of the newsletter to find out what your child has been learning in class.
Reception Reading Meeting
Our Reception children have all settled into school and already begun learning to read through our phonics programme, Little Wandle Letters and Sounds. This helps them to become confident and capable readers, ready to move into Year 1 at the end of the year.
We would like to invite you to an information meeting about how we teach reading and how you can support your child at home. The meeting is on Tuesday 23rd September at 2:30pm. Please enter the school from Davington Road and wait in the KS1 playground.
Further information is in the letter below.

Rocksteady Music School

At Dorothy Barley, we offer music tuition through Rocksteady Music School. The children get to form a band with their friends and learn to play a musical instrument, including guitar, piano and drums. Since our Year 2 children left in July, we have a number of places available for children to join the band!
Rocksteady will be visiting the school on Monday and running a special assembly for all children from Reception to Year 2. Your child will then bring home a leaflet with a QR code to sign up for music tuition. They also get to perform termly to parents and the rest of school.
We are looking forward to hearing the bands!
Flu Vaccinations
On Tuesday, children can receive the nasal flu spray vaccination in school. You will have received a link to register your child for this via email earlier this week, so don’t forget to sign up!
Reminders
Once you have collected your child from school, class teachers are available to answer any questions or to discuss your child. We do ask that you wait until all of the children have been collected before speaking to the teacher, so that we can make sure the children are safe at all times. Thank you for your understanding.
Children must bring the Dorothy Barley book bag to school rather than their own rucksacks. We have very limited space in school so cannot store rucksacks.
Have a lovely weekend!
