Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a busy week in school! Don’t forget to check the blogs at the end of the newsletter to see what your child has been learning in class.
Children in Need

We have been celebrating Children in Need today! During assembly on Wednesday, the children learned about Children in Need and the ways in which the charity supports many vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people, making a difference to children all over the UK.
Today was a non-uniform day and the children looked amazing dressed in yellow, spots and their Pudsey merchandise! Thank you for your very generous donations. We will count up all of the money donated and share the total in the newsletter next week.
House Challenge
This afternoon, we had our second House Challenge of the year linked to anti-bullying week. The theme this year is ‘Power for Good’ and we have been thinking about how we can show kindness to those around us. We learnt about the power of kindness, how it feels to be kind to others and also how it feels to receive kindness.
All the children then worked in their houses to demonstrate kindness to each other. Year 1 and Year 2 created positivity postcards with unique messages from their classmates.
Remembrance

On Tuesday, we came together as a school to commemorate Remembrance Day. The children took part in a special assembly where they learned about the history and significance of Remembrance Day, including explaining why children wear poppies. We then observed a respectful two minute silence, in which the children were encouraged to think about what they had learned.
All classes also made poppies and other artwork to be displayed around the school.
Squirrel Class Educational Visit – London Transport Museum

On Monday, Squirrel class had their turn to visit London Transport Museum. They had a fantastic time learning all about transport in the past, including an exciting ‘Platform Promenade’ workshop led by Museum staff. They will be putting all of this learning into practice over the next few weeks in their History and Design and Technology lessons.
All of the children in Squirrel class showed exemplary behaviour throughout the trip. Thank you to the parents and carers who were able to join us and support the children throughout the day.
English Language Classes
A few weeks ago, Barking and Dagenham College visited the school for one of our ‘Time to Talk’ sessions. One of the many services they offer is English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes. If enough of our parents and carers are interested, the College will be able to run these sessions at school.
You can express your interest by completing the following online form: ESOL Classes Dorothy Barley
Have a lovely weekend!
