Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had another busy week at school! Don’t forget to check the blogs at the end of the newsletter to see what your child has been learning in class.
School Kitchen
We are delighted to share that following a recent routine Environmental Health Officer (EHO) inspection, our school kitchen has been awarded a 5-star food hygiene rating – the highest possible score!
This is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the hard work and dedication of the catering team in maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness, food safety, and hygiene.
Congratulations to everyone involved!
Phonic Screening Check Meeting
Thank you to all parents and carers who attended the phonic screening check meeting this Wednesday. The phonic screening check is a statutory assessment of reading that all Year 1 children in the country take in June. Children are asked to read 40 words, which are a mix of real and ‘alien’ (made up) words. This checks their ability to decode and read both familiar and unfamiliar words.
At Dorothy Barley, we teach reading using the Little Wandle programme and have been accredited as a Champion School to recognise excellence in this area. Further information about how we teach your child to read can be found on the ‘For Parents’ section of the Little Wandle website: Little Wandle For Parents
If you were unable to attend the meeting, the presentation can be found below:

Parental Engagement

As a school, we understand that all children make the best progress when staff and parents work closely together. This week, parents and carers of children in Oak came into the school to help us launch their new curriculum topic by making rockets together. Everyone had lots of fun!
We value all opportunities to work together with families.
Time to Talk – Autism
Please join us for Time to Talk on Thursday 5th February at 9:00, with a special focus on Autism awareness. This session will explore how autism can present in children and offer practical, supportive strategies to help you better understand and support your child at home and in school. There will be time for discussion, questions, and sharing experiences in a welcoming and inclusive environment. We look forward to seeing you there.
All families are welcome to attend, not just those with a child diagnosed with autism.
Reminders
The school doors are open from 8:50-9:00am for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. The most intensive lessons start first thing in the morning so it is vital that your child is at school on time every day.
Have a lovely weekend!
