We have had another busy and very hot week in school. Don’t forget to check the blogs at the end of the newsletter to see what your child has been learning in class!
We are very much looking forward to our World Cup theme week starting on Monday! It will be a a great opportunity for the children to not only enhance their PE skills but to also learn more about the countries participating in the World Cup.
Each class has been randomly allocated a country to support throughout the World Cup, alongside supporting England. They will spend some time during that week in their Geography lessons next week all about the country and its culture. They will also have the opportunity to visit the other classrooms and learn more about different countries from around the world, collecting stamps for their own ‘Dorothy Barley Passport’. The PE lessons for the week will be focused on football and our PE coach is arranging a special challenge for classes to win the ‘Dorothy Barley Cup’!
Thursday 25th June will be a non-uniform day. Children will be invited to wear the colours of the flag of the country their class is supporting.

You will have received a letter about the arrangements for Sports Day on Friday 26th June. The timings are as follows:
9:15am – Key Stage One (Years 1 and 2)
10:30am – Morning Nursery
1:45pm – Early Years Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception)
Sports Day will be held on the field. Families should enter the school via the gate on Hedingham Road.
Children will be representing their houses during this event. All children should come to school wearing plain black shorts or jogging bottoms and a top in their house colour. If you aren’t sure which colour your child should wear, please check with their class teacher. If it is a sunny day, please ensure that children are wearing suncream and come to school with a suitable hat. All children must bring in a water bottle as there will be regular water breaks throughout the event.
Our lovely Year 2 children will soon be leaving us. As part of their transition to Dorothy Barley Junior, we have invited parents and children of Woodpecker class to a special transition event.
During the session, you will hear about a range of strategies to support your child with the transition, meet members of staff from Dorothy Barley Junior Academy and take part in a short activity alongside your child.
We hope to see as many of you there as possible!
As a school, we are learning Makaton as another method of communication. Makaton is a communication programme that uses signs, symbols, and speech to help people communicate effectively, especially those with speech or language difficulties.

Congratulations to Kendrick, Emily, Amelija and Sahil who have completed their Junior Duke award this week!
There are many children in the school who have already fully completed their Junior Duke award, which is fantastic. Please remind your children to bring their books into school for signing each time they have completed a challenge. We have a few more weeks to go before the end of term, and we hope many more children will be able to complete their award this year!
Children are more than welcome to bring their bikes and scooters to school and store them in our bike area for the day. However, children are not allowed to ride or scoot in the playground.

This week we have had so much fun working together in the garden. We have developed our gross motor skills on the climbing frame. The children made some delicious ‘dinners’ in the mud kitchen restaurant. Some children looked closely at the mini-beasts in the garden......
Children in Oak Class have been working alongside their parents to create fantastic shields to support our new story, Zog. Families were invited into the classroom for a special one-to-one crafting session, and everyone got wonderfully creative! It was lovely to see the teamwork between......
Reception have had a lovely week spending lots of time in the garden enjoying the summer sun! We have been having fun keeping cool and enjoying playing with the water....

To reach the school target pupils must not have any more than 6 days off per academic year. If you need to make appointments for your child, please aim to make them out of school hours or during school holidays. Thank you.
Children with 100% attendance each half term will receive a certificate. Pupils with 100% attendance for the whole year will receive a special reward.
