04 Jul Reception PE – Ball Skills
Butterfly Class had an exciting and energetic PE lesson this week, putting into practice the many skills they’ve developed throughout the term. The children took part in a range of games that encouraged teamwork, movement and listening skills.
They moved in different ways including skipping, hopping, jumping, side-stepping whilst following instructions such as when to collect or leave a beanbag, or when to stop and share a ball with a partner. One favourite activity involved ‘taking a ball for a walk’, using their hands or feet to roll or kick the ball along the floor, which they later played in pairs to practice sharing and cooperation.
To finish, the class enjoyed a calming cooldown, lying still and thinking about ways to stay healthy. We had a thoughtful discussion on the benefits of exercise, keeping fit and eating well which links beautifully to our PSHE learning this term.
Here are some of the things the children said:
Roxy: “I was feeling my heart.”
David: “We checked our heartbeat so we can feel if it’s gone fast.”
Kristine: “We ran and then we stopped and checked our heartbeat if it was beating more faster and faster.”
Nicolas: “We played ‘leave and collect’ with the beanbags.”
Ivy-Mae: “We followed our friends and copied what they are doing like jumping, leaping and skipping. When Mrs Din said “change” we swapped places with our partner and you go to the back and copy them.”
Eric: “When Mrs Din said ‘share’ we had to throw the ball to our partner. Or we kicked the ball to our partner.”
Alexia: ” We learnt to kick the ball using the inside of our foot so we could pass it to our partner. We used the ball or sole of our foot to stop the ball.”
Well done Butterfly Class!
