06 Mar Reception – Jungle Artwork & Writing
This week in Bumblebee Class, the children have been busy exploring our focus story, Monkey Puzzle. They thoroughly enjoyed reading the story together and acting it out during our Talk for Writing sessions. The children also worked very hard on their writing, creating sentences about the characters in the story. They practised using describing words and tried their best to remember a capital letter at the beginning of their sentence, finger space between words and a full stop at the end.
In our creative activities, the children explored a range of exciting art techniques. They experimented printing with bubble wrap to create textured snake patterns. They also created beautiful layered jungle paintings to help answer one of our big questions: “How can we paint a jungle?” The children used colour mixing to paint their backgrounds, then added extra details by collaging tissue paper and drawing animals, which they carefully cut out and glued onto their artwork.
Another favourite activity this week was making elephant pictures using different shapes. The children used cupcake cases for the elephant ears and added tissue paper to create tree branches and leaves. They also created zig zag frog pictures which they had so much fun making!
