09 Jan Reception – Ready Steady Go!
The children returned to school this week to a wonderful surprise – our class role-play area had been transformed into a train station. They explored a variety of toys representing different modes of transport, alongside non-fiction and story books linked to the theme. The children were excited to identify the modes of transport and shared their ideas about what comes to mind when they hear the words ‘transport’ and ‘journey’.
We then introduced our new key story for the term, ‘Mr Grumpy’s Outing.’ – The children thoroughly enjoyed acting out the story as a class using role-play puppets and even worked together to create our own rowing boat using large wooden blocks. It was fantastic to see them using vocabulary and dialogue from the story, learning new words and creating actions to help remember them.
They also had a great fun creating and decorating their own boats using junk modelling materials and construction toys. A fun-filled and engaging start to the term – well done everyone!
