Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had another busy week in school! Don’t forget to check the blogs at the end of the newsletter to see what your child has been learning in class!
House Challenge – Languages and Culture

Our first House Challenge of the year will take place on Friday 9th October. During House Challenges, children work together with children from across the school who also belong to their House on a range of topics and themes.
The theme for our first House Challenge is Language and Culture. We will be learning about and celebrating our cultural backgrounds. In each House, children will be learning about a different country and culture. They may even come home having learnt a few words in a new language!
| Rashford House | England |
| Attenborough House | India |
| Donaldson House | Pakistan |
| Benjamin House | Romania |
We are also encouraging all children to celebrate their unique cultural heritage. It will be a non-uniform day and children are invited to come to school wearing cultural dress or their colours of their own flag. If your child would like to bring in something from home that represents their culture, for example a special item or book, they are more than welcome to do so. These will be shared with their class during the day.
Parents Evenings – 21st and 22nd October
At Dorothy Barley, we understand the important contribution that parents make to their child’s education and always want to work in partnership with you.
Our first Parents Evenings of this academic year will be held on Wednesday 21st October and Thursday 22nd October. This first Parents Evening is an ideal opportunity to find out more about how your child has settled into their new class and the learning in their new year group. It is also an opportunity to discuss any concerns or worries you may have about your child.
Look out for a letter next week with information about booking an appointment.
