24 Oct Reception – Diwali & Harvest Festival
In Reception this week, the children have really enjoyed exploring our Big Question ‘What is Harvest?’ They learnt about how different foods are harvested and why this time of year is special. The children went on a seasonal walk around the school to find Autumn leaves and decorated their own crowns using Autumnal colours. As part of our harvest celebration, the children learnt a selection of songs and enjoyed performing to their parents and carers during our concert.
Also this week, we have really enjoyed learning about the festival of Diwali, as part of our Big Question ‘What is Diwali?’. During free-flow time, they have had the opportunity to create their own Rangoli patterns using different coloured sand and using shape tiles. They also experimented making firework pictures and creating their on mendhi patterns. The children were especially excited to learn that some people celebrate by having a firework display and that they decorate their homes with lights called ‘divas’.
