Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had another busy week in school. Don’t forget to check the blogs at the end of the newsletter to see what your child has been learning in class!
Hot Weather
Thank you for your understanding this week as we have navigated the very hot weather! The children have coped very well but we are all looking forward to the return of slightly cooler temperatures next week.
Sports Day was cancelled due to the heatwave and has been rescheduled for Monday 13th July, weather permitting.
World Cup Theme Week

The children have had great fun this week during World Cup theme week. Each class was allocated a country to support and learn about. They have learned lots of interesting facts about countries from around the world! The children also learned about the tournament and had a special World Cup themed quiz with our PE coach, Mr Hemmings.
We finished the week off with a non-uniform day where the children got to dress up in the colours of the flag of the country their class is supporting. Everyone looked fantastic!
Time to Talk Transition – Woodpecker Class
This week, we welcomed the WISE team back to school, who delivered a transition session for Woodpecker class and their parents. We were also delighted to welcome Mr Arrowsmith from the Junior School, who joined the session to help answer questions about the move to Year 3.
The children enjoyed sharing what they have loved most about their time in Year 2 and discussing what they think might be the same or different in Year 3. They discovered that many things will stay the same, including lunchtime routines and the subjects they will learn. They also talked about some exciting changes, such as having a larger playground and sitting at desks in their classrooms.
The session was a wonderful opportunity to help children feel positive, prepared and excited about the next step in their learning journey. We will miss the children when they leave us but are sure they will thrive in the Junior School!
Kingfisher class are looking forward to their session on Thursday 2nd July at 9am.
Transition Afternoon
We have a very exciting afternoon coming up next Friday as the children will find out who their new teachers are for next year!
Year 2 will be visiting Dorothy Barley Junior Academy and getting to know their Year 3 teachers, whilst everyone else will be moving up for the afternoon. The children will spend an hour with their new teacher and new class, getting ready for the new academic year in September. The teachers are all looking forward to meeting their new classes and getting the year off to a great start.
Reception Stay and Play
On Tuesday, we will be welcoming our new Reception children and families to school to meet their teachers and start the transition process. Parents of children currently in our Nursery are also invited for an information meeting as part of this session.
The session starts at 2pm. We hope to see as many of you there as possible!
Junior Duke
Congratulations to Freya, Sara A, Ella and Musa who have completed their Junior Duke award this week!
There are many children in the school who have already fully completed their Junior Duke award, which is fantastic. Please remind your children to bring their books into school for signing each time they have completed a challenge. We have a few more weeks to go before the end of term, and we hope many more children will be able to complete their award this year! The deadline is 9th July.
Staffing
Finally, congratulations to Miss Alexander and her new beautiful baby boy! We are sure you will join us in wishing her and her family every happiness during this special time.
Have a lovely weekend!
